Each plane iron is individually machined, heat treated, cryogenically treated, hand finished, and sharpened in small batches in Colorado, USA. My goal is to produce replacement irons with exceptional consistency, edge stability, and ready-to-use performance.

• Premium MagnaMax tool steel
64 HRC which is the maximum hardness Magnamax can have while still maintaining excellent toughness. See the steel information page for more information.
• Precision heat treated in small batches with Plate quench’s and forced air which improves edge retention and toughness at a given hardness vs industrially gas quenched blades.
• Cryogenically treated for maximum transformation after hardening. Done immediately after quench for maximum benefit
• Hand finished with a fine satin surface
• Individually sharpened before shipping
• Laser engraved with the Roberts Fine Tools maker’s mark
• Handcrafted in the USA
Compatibility
Compatible with: Antique number 4 and 5 hand planes ie hand planes using blades with 2 inch's in width .
Unlike mass-produced tooling, every batch receives close attention throughout the heat treatment process, including:
* Controlled hardening
* Plate quenching
* Cryogenic treatment
* Multiple tempering cycles
* Individual inspection before shipment
Every blade is personally finished and sharpened before leaving my shop.
